If You Build it… WILL they Will Come?
Most of us are familiar with the famous line from the movie Field of Dreams, “if you build it, they will come”. It has become more than just a famous movie quote – it has basically taken on a life of its own! To the point where people who don’t even know where the line comes from will say it.
But is it true? Is that famous line that is so full of hope actually true?
In my opinion the answer is YES. And NO.
A Little More To The Story
The movie (hopefully) made it obvious that it was about much more than just baseball. It was meant to inspire on many levels – with a baseball field and the old time players involved in the story, simply being a metaphor for whatever it is that YOU, the viewer, want to create in your life.
And while baseball was absolutely the perfect topic for the movie in order to make the whole thing have that sort of nostalgic and romantic feel to it and to make the movie the success that it was, a more apt and accurate metaphor might have been that of a garden. Granted, the movie would have been incredibly boring!
Building it = Getting Started
And there is something to be said for “getting started” without a doubt. However, whatever it is that you want in your life in order to “get” it (allow it, create it, manifest it – whatever) I dare say that there is a bit more to it than just getting started – just “building it”.
Which is why I believe that the garden is the more appropriate (yet less sensational) metaphor.
So Build it…by all means, build it!
But once it’s built, and using my new metaphor of a garden, you must then…
Focus on it – the power of your attention.
Keep the weeds out of it – the power of your love and care.
Water it. Give it sunlight – the power of your helping natural processes along whenever possible.
Be sure it’s in the best possible location on your “property” – the power of keeping it in the forefront of your mind.
Know anyone that might benefit from this kind of a reminder? Feel free to share it in any way you see fit!
